Named as one of the Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. by Soliant Health in 2011, the 144-bed Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center replacement facility serves Washoe Valley, Carson Valley, and the surrounding communities. Moon Mayoras designed the hospital to provide a therapeutic healing environment that enhances the patient, visitor, and staff experience.
The three-story, 358,000-square-foot medical facility is located on a beautiful 75-acre site surrounded by stunning nature views of Carson City, Nevada. The adjacent Eagle Creek waterway winds through the center of the site, bounded by Carson Valley to the south and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west. The project features a large outdoor “front porch” to allow visitors to enjoy the mild climate and surrounding beauty year-round.
The facility provides labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) services, eight operating rooms, emergency services to accommodate 32,000 annual visits, and an innovative universal cardiac room designed to house adaptable acuity under the facility’s “CardioOne” program. It was designed to separate patient and staff areas from the highly visible community areas. The public “saw tooth” lobby creates discreet waiting areas bathed in natural light and provides dramatic views to the outside. Private patient rooms are arranged on rectilinear bed units to maximize access to central clinical support services. Each bed unit includes a private discharge lounge for patients awaiting transportation.
