What we do…

Simple, elegant, caring architecture for health is what we do at Moon Mayoras Architects, Inc. When we started, we had a vision for how good, intelligent design could re-shape a hospital from being a place that is loud, maze-like and, well, smells like a hospital, into a comforting place to be and get better.

We were among the first to pioneer the creation of healing, therapeutic environments, where the architecture of a hospital itself can enhance the healing process. By using evidence-based strategies, our approach seeks to provide a design that contributes to a patient’s well-being and eliminates environmental stresses that impact the healing process. The outcome is a place where patients, their families and the hospital staff have a sense of familiarity and control, essential elements in a therapeutic environment.

We also advocate applying sustainable, green design where possible in a building that has to consume massive amounts of energy 24/7 to keep patients alive. We were one of the first architects in the country to implement the Green Guide for Healthcare into a hospital and we continue to find new ways to green-up a hospital.

How we do it…

When it comes to hospitals, one size does not fit all. We love that…it keeps our jobs interesting and fun. So, how do we design a hospital with all of its uniqueness and individuality? We listen. We interact with every department, ask a lot of questions, and come back with ideas, options and design approaches.

For as simple as that sounds, we know the challenges of integrating often times opposing ideas coming from both inside the hospital, and from their community. Hospitals – new, additions or renovations – are expensive to build and operate. Getting support from constituents will make or break a project. Collaboration, from the start, is key to building support. We work with our clients to help organize and inform their message, and not only from a design perspective.

It takes experience to make this work and it is the sole reason why we promise our clients active principal involvement in all projects. We know, that sounds like lip service, right?
