Emergency Department Renovation
Poway, California

Integrating three distinct components (Emergency Department, Urgent Care and Observation Unit) with individual nurse stations that are supported from a central core (Meds, Dictation, etc.). Each component will flow patients conveniently from one area to the next and each component can go directly to and from the hospital independently without the patient traffic flowing through the adjacent service line.

The project provides 12 emergency bays, 5 observation positions and 4 urgent care spaces.  The new addition will abut the existing facility.  Two separate and distinct entry points are provide for ambulatory patients and emergency (ambulance) patients.

EISENHOWER MEDICAL CENTER
Emergency Department
Rancho Mirage, California

The design team developed a plan, based on user input, to provide a 37-position (currently 21-position) Emergency Department to meet the increase in patient visits.

The plan is organized into two racetrack configurations with the private exam rooms surrounding a central core that is accessible from both sides of the plan diagram.  The four nurse stations are evenly proportioned into the 37 positions for a 12-position/nurse-station ratio.  This arrangement will allow flexibility to open or close a nurse station to meet the fluctuating patient admissions.

Construction Cost:         $30 M
