The 144-bed Carson Tahoe Regional Medical, designed by Moon Mayoras, was presented an Award for International Design by Interiors Magazine in February 2007. Every year Interiors Magazine offers recognition in an array of market segments to recognize outstanding designs by category, including healthcare. Since the first competition in 1979, Interiors Magazine assembles a jury of respected design industry leaders to review and rank the projects in each category. Healthcare projects are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Visual and graphic images of interior space that support an environment capable of improving the quality of healthcare based on sound evidence based design principles.
- A demonstrated response to the program statement
- A demonstrated partnership between the clients and design professionals
- Statement describing client feedback or testimony that the project seeks to improve the quality of healthcare, including: Does it demonstrate sensitivity to patient needs and seek to improve therapeutic outcomes, enhance staff performance, and increase visitor and community participation? Were higher satisfaction ratings by patients, families, and staff a key design objective?
