The San Diego International Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) presented the 2006 Innovation in an Institutional Project Award to Moon Mayoras for their work on the Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, Nevada. The ACI is a non-profit technical and educational society organized in 1904 and is one of the world’s leading authorities on concrete technology.
The 144-bed replacement facility was designed to enhance the patient, visitor, and staff experience. The facility separates patient and staff areas from the highly visible community spaces. MMA arranged the private patient rooms on rectilinear bed units to maximize access to central clinical support services. Each bed unit incorporates a private Discharge Lounge for patients awaiting transportation. The facility offers labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) services, eight operating rooms, emergency services to accommodate 32,000 annual visits, and an innovative universal cardiac room designed to accommodate adaptable acuity under the facility’s “CardioOne” program.
