CHW Sequoia Hospital Pavilion
Redwood City, California
Sequoia Hospital’s
vision is to rebuild a state-of-the-art facility at its current
historic Redwood City site to advance its commitment to providing
innovative and exceptional health care to the southern San Mateo
County community. The rebuilding program for the 13-acre Sequoia
Hospital campus site consists of a new 4-story, 162,735 sf, 104 bed
Pavilion addition, a new central utility plant, a 50,000 sf medical
office building and a new 4.5-level parking structure to serve the
campus. This project will transfer services from the 50-year old,
outdated facilities and position Sequoia Hospital to enhance current
technologies including diagnostics, surgical intervention, medical
and critical care and information technology. Portions of the
existing hospital will also be renovated including existing
Medical/Surgical beds, Skilled Nursing Facility, Emergency Services,
and other ancillary/support services.
Located within a
residential area of Redwood City, the site topography and property
constraints create significant design challenges for positioning the
new four story bed tower, central utility plant, medical office
building and 650 space parking structure.

Eisenhower Medical Center, Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion
Rancho Mirage, California
The Walter
and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion provides 160 new inpatient beds at
the Eisenhower Medical Center (EMC) campus. Located in Rancho
Mirage, California, EMC is the regional medical center serving a
surrounding desert community that is home to over 350,000 permanent
residents. As a popular
resort destination, EMC experiences unusually high seasonal
fluctuation annually resulting in a short term surge in bed demand
during peak months. The
Annenberg Pavilion is designed to accommodate this seasonal impact
by providing 88 additional beds upon demand resulting in up to 248
additional licensed beds when in full “Surge Mode”.
Special amenities include family and visitor areas,
window-beds for overnight guests, and hotel-like suites. Patients are
provided with personal choices, and can make dining selections from
healthy, restaurant-style menus with bedside nutritional counselors.

This new acute care hospital will exist on a 100-acre healthcare campus made up of a 60-acre hospital site consisting of 94 beds with ability to accommodate 102 additional beds as demand grows. The remaining 40-acres will consist of complimentary healthcare services such as physician medical office buildings, assisted living and research options.
The embracing open arms of the two in-patient care units invite the public to the canopy at the center for main entry drop off area. The rotunda and chapel tower reinforce the way finding of this entry point, while establishing the identity of this facility within the community. Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center
Carson City, Nevada
The organizational goal of this project is to establish and implement a design that will allow for thoughtful growth to meet the communities' needs today and in the future.
The 50-acre parcel is designed to accommodate a 144-bed, 345,000 SF facility, along with a 13,000 SF Central Plant. Additionally, the project also included planning for freestanding Cancer Center and three Medical Office Buildings (MOB) on the new site adjacent to the new facility.
The facility has controlled access and is buffered by a pond and greenery in a serene campus setting. The design of the hospital is based on a "healing environment" theme that invites elements of nature to become part of the patient, visitor and staff experience. The lobby and waiting areas are bathed in natural light and provide a view and access to the natural river-wash to the dramatic northeastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. The design of this project separates patient and staff areas from the highly visible community areas. Click here for Article
